God Dream Meanings

Jung says that while the Catholic church admits of dreams sent by God, most theologians make little attempt to understand dreams.

God in a dream can depict several things: a set of emotions we use to deal with anxiety, i.e. our own belief that a higher power is in charge, so therefore we are all right in the world and are not responsible; a parent image from early infancy; a set of moral or philosophical beliefs one holds; self judgment; something/one we worship; a feeling of connection with hu­manity; an expression of the fundamental creative/destructive process in oneself.

Vision: If you are praying: your faith is growing stronger.

If you see God or speak to him: you are receiving advice “from above” and would do well to act on it.

Depth Psychology: Dreams about God always convey valuable insights and are a promise of help.

The dreams can be important road signs for your journey through life, promising harmony and abundance. God is the source of all there is and a symbol of the desire to live in harmony with all creatures, but God appearing in a dream might also be a sign of guilt feelings that we want taken awav. If you dream of seeing God, you will be domineered over by a tyrannical woman masquerading under the cloak of Christianity. No good accrues from this dream.

If God speaks to you, beware that you do not fall into condemnation. Business of all sorts will take an unfavorable turn.

The dilemma over the existence of God is probably the most common dilemma of them all. Everyone from time to time will have a dream about “God.” Its symbolism depends on the dreamer. For a certain number of people, in the dream state, God may have negative connotations.

Dreaming of God is rare. It expresses your hope for relating to the most basic part of yourself and for bringing out your strengths. The nature of this dream can be very spiritual. Sometimes the unconscious uses symbols of ancient traditions to express your feelings about divinity. According to psychoanalysis, dreaming of God means finding solace or answers to questions that are beyond our understanding. It also represents the need for protection, the search for the father’s figure, and a desire to return to childhood.

Dreaming you are in the presence of God (the Divine, holiest of holies, creator, source of pure love, or whatever name you prefer) can represent: Your actual experience of God’s presence during the dream.

A desire to feel connectedness with or received assistance from God.

Your idea of God or interacting with God (the way you think or hope it would be).

A desire for belonging, connectedness, or meaning.

An imagined god or mythological god (such as Zeus) can represent real, imagined, or desired help; guidance or comfort from an authority figure somehow in your life; feeling vulnerable or powerless somehow; a reminder of how an authentic spiritual connection compares to the emptiness of a pseudo-spiritual icon or “lower-level god.” Consider also what the idea of the deity in the dream means to you, its context in the dream, your feelings and intent, and whether you experienced the overwhelming peace and love that signifies God’s presence.

The God archetype, whether represented as deity or a worldly power in dreams, represents the ultimate in male dominance. On the positive side, a God can be benevolent and compassionate, willing to use his powers to help others out of love for humanity. The shadow God easily becomes a dictator or despot, oppressing others with those same powers, or using his physical attractiveness to get what he wants without ever returning the affection he elicits.
