(1) If you are being chased in a dream, what is chasing you probably symbolizes something you are afraid of, either in your external life or - more commonly - in your inner self, your unconscious. The origin of dreams of being chased or attacked probably dates back to an era when humans fought off beasts or other tribal members to survive. The ‘monsters’ of today are more likely to be emotional beasts, such as fear, anxiety, anger, hatred and envy, or the pressures put upon us by the fast pace of life. In these dream scenarios you are often being pursued by some attacker who wants to hurt or possibly kill you. Chase dreams may represent your way of coping with fears, stresses or various difficult situations in your waking life. Instead of confronting the situation, you are running away and avoiding it. Going downhill may be easy and exhilarating, but the sense of free fall can also breed terror and create danger or misfortune. If there is a view at the top of the hill, you may be looking at the motivating forces that underlie your current choices. If you are sailing easily and safely downhill, your unconscious may be signaling the end of a previous dilemma or signaling a need to proceed with blind faith—that no matter what the consequences, you will survive and proceed successfully.
